Photo number one… Chanel Store

1. Where are lights positioned? Ceiling, floor, or sides of window?
The lights in Chanel are placed along the ceiling.

2. How many lighting fixtures do you see?
I see seven lights

3. What style are the lighting fixtures? Cans, or other?
They are more of a spot lighting

url.jpg

4. Do any lights shine in your eyes or are they all properly focused on products? In this case they are not shining directly in my eyes. They do a great job at really highlighting they mannequins and the giant hanging posters.

5. Are bulbs clean? For the most part I do believe they are clean they are kind of scattered but not anything that really catches my attention if i am not looking for it.

6. Does the lighting enhance the display?
I think it very much does because without this spot lights the displays would be unnoticeable since the store is already so dark.

url.jpg

6. Does the lighting enhance the display?
Yes in every way! They have lights coming from all different angles which makes this display say HEY LOOK AT ME!!

7. How does the lighting enhance the display from your expert visual merchandising perspective?
Well since the lights are places around the entire window it gives the chance to really pick of those tones of greens and browns and it puts just enough highlight on each color.

If you notices this display is a little different because the lights are not just paced on the ceiling they are also placed on the sides and on the floor.

Style yourself or a friend and take a photo. Upload that photo to the blog. Then right a minimum of 5 sentences telling me how you coordinated the outfit considering…
1.     End use
2.     Fabrication
3.     Style
4.     Color

First I will address how I used end use in my outfit is that i put together items that were a like these pieces were meant to be "casual going out" clothing. With the fabrication i mixed it up a little bit my pants were a normal rough jean like material and my shirt was pure silk, which made it a little bit more fancy than if i were to wear just a plain cotton shirt with those pants. The style was meant to be Casual comfy but still very trendy with adding the neon colors that really popped. I did a little bit of a mix of colors i have black, dark green, lime green and then nude for my wedges.

This is a picture of me wearing an outfit that I put together for work.   My thought process was quick, but sometimes I feel those are my best looking outfits.   Reds and pinks are colors that complement me well, so I tend to gravitate to them.  These red slacks that I am wearing in this picture are one of my favorite pants because I wear so many different colors with them.  Today I decided to pair it with this leopard print lace tunic top.  I think this top matches really well with the red slacks.  My style can vary, but I do like to dress very trendy with creativity behind my outfits.  The accessories that I am wearing also give the outfit an end use, which pulls the outfit together.

At Brooks Brothers they are using spot light to highlight there window display.  The lights are square, but give off a lot of light to draw the customer attention.  The bulbs are bright and seem to be clear.  The light are positioned from the ceiling, but slightly tilted in different directions on the merchandise.

Christina Marsico-Blog 9 (second picture)

In this second photo you will see that Pottery Barn uses different lighting because they are offering their home goods in a different way. They are using hanging lights and circle halogen lights that are around the perimeter of the store. I see they are using several different types of lights, but are used in different places within the store to highlight different merchandise.

Christina Marsico-Blog 9

This picture is from Kids Pottery Barn taken from Mall of Millenia.  In this store the lights are positioned down the aisle and around the perimeter of the store.   While I was there I saw only two types of lights; hanging lights and spot lights.  The way they have positioned the lights it really showcasing the merchandise.  I think that the way the lights are positioned around the store gets their customers focused on their products.

In this picture you will see that I made a trip to Publix that is in my neighborhood.  Most grocery stores today use a simple grid layouts because of the size of the store and quantity of gondola fixtures required to hold thousands of merchandise.  Publix uses a grid layout which is a linear design with fixtures are arranged in parallel aisles.

I also took a picture of a display at Publix that was at the front of the store.   It looks like they are trying to promote Pepsi and using cross-merchandise with the children’s beach chairs.   I can see that they were trying to go with a beach theme with the chairs and incorporating soft drinks for the beach.  This display needs to have some height it’s very flat.

The store that I came across was American Eagle. American Eagle is a store that I NEVER go to. I always walk pass it and I have never bought anything from the store. So this particular time that I was walking by to go to H&M, the window displays caught my eyes. I actually loved the displays and the displays made me stop and look at the store. The unity and harmony of the colors of the displays were good. They balanced each other out. Repetition was good. It wasn't overdone and it was the right rhythm. The store displays emphasize change to me and the contrast between the mannequins were not over done. The surprise aspect to me was the creativity of the displays themselves. American Eagle is a boring store to me and they have never caught my eye. This particular night they did and I almost decided to go into the store. Even though I didn't go into the store that evening,  American Eagle did succeed at catching my attention. :)

i-love-anthropologie-windows.jpg

This is a window display for a store called Anthropologie. I think the merchandiser executed this window display very well. It is such a simple window but yet it is still so interesting to look at. This window definitely is something that will catch someone's attention when they are walking by. I think that this window can be considered unified when looking at the principals of design. The balance of this window may seem a little of to some outsiders but in my opinion the level of proportion of craziness and simplicity of the outfits actually makes this window a very balanced window. Also in my opinion when looking at all the different aspect of the contrast principal the window meets all of the need for the most part  the spacing and positioning of things are very well done and the colors and textures the merchandiser has chosen to use really work together well. The window overall is very inviting it has a nice rhythm to it. The window is just enough out of the box for it to catch peoples eyes but not to much that it is easy for someone to lose interest.

Old Navy is one my go to stores when I am looking for those inexpensive flip flops or just some casual wear.  This floor display caught my eye and I thought I would share with you how they applied the principles of Design to this display.   As you can see they are showcasing their summer merchandise in a creative and colorful way.   The first principle of design they used was unity, which occurs when all of the elements of a presentation combine to make a balanced, harmonious complete whole.  An example of this is how they used the colors, similar merchandise and the positioning of the mannequins.   The next one is harmony which they keep the theme (beach/summer/pool) flowing throughout the display, but not taking away from the brand image.  I really like how they use balance in this display as they keep the colors consistent and have other products that go along with the theme.  Repetition is also obvious in this floor display.  For example, all the mannequins are wearing Old Navy t-shirts which are repeated items that the retailer is trying to sell.  The visual pattern that I see in this display is that they are all wearing Old Navy t-shirts and bright colors.  There is defiantly emphasis on the Old Navy t-shirts that is placed and showcased throughout this display.   They did not use much contrast in this display, but there is a long sign that is behind the mannequins that is a contrast as to how they are placed on the platforms.

Blog 10 Crystal Mitchell

I decided not to change the logo as much because I wanted to keep the logo simple. I wanted it to be elegant and pretty. So I kept it simple.

Blog 10 Aliana

I changed the picture to just a drawn triangle and added a sewing needle graphic, I also enlarged the font

Sancie's Blog Post 10

The only changes I made to my logo was changing the font so the letters look like what they're suppose to be. In addition, I added a little color to the font so it can standout a little more.

After changing the same logo three times , I decided to go with my original hanger with Must Have It Combined into the hanger. I think this fits my brand concept and matches the style if clothing that is offers at My store. My original logo was a hanger with Must Have It written in script, this logo isn't to far off from the original it's innovated from the first logo in my opinion.

Blog post 10 Pedro Diaz

This is my final logo, my self and as a class we decided that if I change the color of the seven in the logo it would help the logo be stronger, more understandable, and readable. I really like the way this logo looks now because it's more clear from what I first started it with, an stands out better with just changing the color. Before, this logo  had a little side hook sticking out on the P and when I took it out of the logo it made it look better and stronger.

Blog post 10- Trisha

This is my final logo. I decided to stay with this one because is easy to read compare to the other one. I changed the color of the letter given an emphasis more to what the item offer in the store represent in every woman closet. This font is easier to read and the colors are better coordinate matching the store concept.

Week 10 Posting- Megan

This is my new logo, it is completely different from my original logo. My original design was an envelope with the name of the store in the middle with hearts. I think that this one is much better and fits my brand image very well.

Changes to Logo

I changed the colors on the mommy hair flower, changed the font and the postioning of the text.

One of the store I visited is Brooks Brother. The light fixture used in the window are focal light. Each light points directly to the item.  The lighting does not interfere with the glass which make it easier to see the item. The window display and the lighting was very clean. Because the lighting is focusing on the garmens and the picture in the back my eyes go directly to the focal points.
Loft window display is very clean. The lighting used was focus light that is right on top of the garment display. The color of the background catch more my attention than the pieces display this time. The lighting was very clean so were the garments.
The Kate spade window display is very bright because of the amount of lighting use for only one Maniquin displayed.  5 focus lights where use to brighten the window. There purpose was not only to bright the manniqui but also the glass images. The lighting was very clean as well as the fixtures displayed in the window. The lighting enhance the window display making the customers look at a bright window

Sancie's Blog Post #9

The three stores I visited were Anthropologie, Kate Spade and Aldo. In Anthropologie the lighting in the window display for Anthropologie  is positioned in the ceiling. On the particular window display that I took a picture of, there are nine lighting fixtures. The style of lighting fixtures that are used are spotlights. All if the lights were properly focused on the items that were being featured in the window display. The bulbs are clean and enhanced the display. From my point of view the lighting enhanced the display window because it was set at an angle in order to focus on the merchandise and not on blank floor areas.

The lights in Kate Spade are also positioned in the ceiling. The amount of lighting fixtures that are in their display windows are four on each side. The lighting fixture styles that are used are spotlights. None of the lights used in the display window shine in my eyes, they are all properly focused on the products. All of the bulbs are clean, therefore it enhanced the display. Because of the type of lighting technique that is used in the display window, there was no dark areas. The window display was well lit which enhanced the colors of the featured merchandises.

In Aldo, the lights are positioned in the ceiling. There are two can lights on each side of the display windows and four track lights. None of the lights shine directly in my eyes because they are all properly focused on the products in the window. I don't think the lighting in the window enhances the display. In my opinion, the window display was well lit.

Carilyn's blog post 9

For my three stores in the mall I choose Kate Spade, Aldo Shoes, and Tommy Bahamas.

Kate Spade has light fixtures on the ceiling. Each window display has 5 light fixtures. The light fixtures were spot lights. The lights are properly focused on merchandise. The light bulbs look clean. The lights do enhance the display. The light enhances the display and attracts customer to focus on the merchandise.

Aldo Shoes have four track lights on the ceiling. The lights focus on the merchandise. The bulbs are very clean and indeed enhances the display. The position of the lights most definitely gives the walk by customers a reason to stop and look. It gives the window display a clean crisp look.

This is Tommy Bahamas with can four can lights in the ceiling. All lights are very clean, however the placement or style of lights used doesn't enhance the merchandise. I find the visual too dark for a window display. It does not attract the pass by customers, because I doesn't have an inviting window display. Especially when the lights are not bright. The lights do shin off your eyes and makes a glare on the window.

Andrea Craig Blog Post 9

When evaluating lighting the three window displays that stood out to me were The Art Of Shaving, Splendid, & Rue 21 These stories to me exemplified the proper way to highlight a product

The Art of Shaving  is set up to provide men with the finest shaving products and barber service,When evaluating their lighting technique ,thi  barber shop had 10 spotlights hanging from the ceiling highlighting  highlighting the products and the services they offer.

Splendid is a ultra -comfortable, effortlessly chic styles for women of all ages. When evaluating
The lighing in splendid I noticed that this store used track lights in their store to highlight the windows and the merchandise on the inside of the store. On the top of the  ceiling in the  were 6 can lights focusing directly of the mannequins in the window. Both can and spotlights were used to give the window display a bright feeling .

Rue 21 is a hit the street in style. When evaluating the lighing technique in Rue 21 men's window display, I noticed that Rue 21 used 6 track lights hanging from their ceiling Angeles in diffrent directions to highlight the signage ,  mannequins & props.

Aliana Roman Blog 9

Banana Republic:
In this store the lighting is positioned on the ceiling. As far as lighting fixtures I see about 4 or 5 spot lights and two flood lights. What they used were the spot lights that you can move around. None of the lights shine directly to your eyes they are all focused on the products facing the window. The bulbs are not visible and the lighting defiantly enhances the display. It mainly focuses on the cluster of mannequins to the left. The lighting makes you focus on the mannequins and the four pants facing the window. Everything else doesn't seem to clutter in the back so much it is very accented.

Juicy Couture:
The juicy couture store does not have as much going on in the window as it does inside. To me it's like two completely different stores. The lighting is placed on the ceiling. They used about 3 or 4 can lights on top to directly shine on the mannequins. Nothing really hits your eyes and the bulbs are properly cleaned. Lighting does enhance the display but according to my perspective I don't think they needed too much lighting. The way the store is in the mall there is a lot of natural sunlight coming in so any other lighting fixtures would drown out the window display.

Ann Taylor:
This is one of my favorite examples of cross merchandising for a window display. All the lights are on the ceiling and they used abut 4. They had the normal can lights to flood the whole window and then 2 or 3 spot lights that really made everything pop out. Nothing shines in your eyes at all. Everything is nicely cleaned and dusted. The lighting defiantly enhances the display but I do feel like there is one mannequin on the left that should have a spot light. From my perspective the lighting makes you look at all the mannequins first then notice all the details in between. I can tell the visual merchandiser focused on an end use with this display.

Megan Blog Post 9

This week I examined 3 window display's lighting. Michael Kors, Tumi, and Hugo Boss were the 3 stores that I chose to talk about. All three displays had the lights positioned on the ceiling and were very well lit, I could tell that they had factored in the natural lighting when creating the lighting displays.

Michael Kors had hanging track lighting, they had 3 sets of tracks and were positioned on the merchandise in the window as well as the mannequins in the corner of the window. None of the lights were shining in my eyes they were all positioned very well, the bulbs were clean and not spotty. I think that these displays were enhanced by the lighting through the highlighting of the merchandise.
Tumi's lighting was also positioned on the ceiling and they had two sets of track lighting that were positioned on the suitcases. The lights did a wonderful job of bringing out the colors of the luggage. the lights did not shine in my eyes and they were positioned very well on the merchandise, the bulbs were very clean and shined brightly.
Hugo Boss also had the lighting in the ceiling but they had can lighting. The lights were positioned on the display in a way that made your eyes travel around the whole thing . The lights were not positioned in my eyes but they had some metallic pieces that the lights did reflect off of and they shined in my eyes which was unpleasant. The bulbs were clean and the lighting did enhance the display by making it stand out even more than it already did.

This is a casual outfit. The blazer is 100% cotton, white cotton shirt, denim shorts, loafers, statement necklace and metalic color bag. This outfit can be use for a school day, shopping day, wherever you feel comofrtable. Shorts are my favorite piece for the summer. I added a blazer because i was going to school and wanted to a long sleeve piece to make it look more school apropiate. The necklace is what complement the outfit. by adding the outfit to the white shirt it give the outfit more life. A bold necklace will always transform an outfit. The color used are black, white, gray and dark gray.

This outfit can be used for casual Fridays at work, brunch on the weekend, shopping with the girlfriends. The top is a coral colored spaghetti string tank with a stone colored boucle cardi jacket, With a rounded neckline; four-metallic rosette button placket, all over multi-tone woven pattern and metallic thread details, Patch pockets with decorative rosette buttons in front. Paired with stone washed relaxed fit skinny denim, ankle cropped. To complete the casual style, the model is wearing a pair of Multicolored basket-weave paper-straw upper, with peep-toe opening flats. To accessorize she has a two tone coral necklace. This completes a casual style outfit, styled by, Carilyn EgleĆ©

Sancie's Blog Post #8

In my opinion,  this outfit is versatile. It can be worn on a couple of different occasions such as to the movies, the mall, or even a lunch date.  The type of fabric that was used to make the top was 95% combed cotton & 5% elastane, while the high waist pants are 90% nylon & 10% elastane. The top is made out of combed cotton, therefore it is very soft against the skin. The blend in the pants creates a flattering slimming effect. The reason why I chose to pair the two together because for me it's comfortable. The style I was going for was the 1950's look based on the movie Grease, but I added the flats to make it look more like an everyday "day look". The reason why I chose black is because of the look I was going for, and I added the red belt to give it a little pop along with the red headband.

This is my sister in law/ model. She is rocking her Must Have It white and tertiary colored dress with gold trimming. This dress is cut high in the neck area and low in the back, it can be worn as a cocktail or club dress depending on the shoes. We decided to go with no necklace due to the high cut neck area and used blue earrings and pink shoes to accent the colors in the dress. This dress is a stretch bodycon dress made to show off skin and curves.
