C.Marsico Blog 2

Old Navy is one my go to stores when I am looking for those inexpensive flip flops or just some casual wear.  This floor display caught my eye and I thought I would share with you how they applied the principles of Design to this display.   As you can see they are showcasing their summer merchandise in a creative and colorful way.   The first principle of design they used was unity, which occurs when all of the elements of a presentation combine to make a balanced, harmonious complete whole.  An example of this is how they used the colors, similar merchandise and the positioning of the mannequins.   The next one is harmony which they keep the theme (beach/summer/pool) flowing throughout the display, but not taking away from the brand image.  I really like how they use balance in this display as they keep the colors consistent and have other products that go along with the theme.  Repetition is also obvious in this floor display.  For example, all the mannequins are wearing Old Navy t-shirts which are repeated items that the retailer is trying to sell.  The visual pattern that I see in this display is that they are all wearing Old Navy t-shirts and bright colors.  There is defiantly emphasis on the Old Navy t-shirts that is placed and showcased throughout this display.   They did not use much contrast in this display, but there is a long sign that is behind the mannequins that is a contrast as to how they are placed on the platforms.
