Carilyn-Blog Post 2- Principles of Design

The store I chose is the Michael Kors at the Premium Outlets.

Unity- all the apparel and Accesories such as handbags and shoes maintain a balanced, harmonious look, making a complete look.

Harmony- the layout, the chose of color combinations, are aligned with the stores brand image. It is minimalist, elegant, and unity.

Balance- the visual maintains certain symmetry being that the apparel is of same length and concept. The handbags and shoes are placed in two different columns but the size of the handbags are equal on both columns.

Repetition- the visual has repetition in the recurring design of the apparel and handbags. The colors are in the same color intensity. The shape is sends a repetitive message of dignity, strength, and height. Therefore the visuals message is reinforced.

Rhythm- the repetition plays along with creating a visual movement to take the eye to move from one item to the other.

Emphasis- the emphasis is seen with the lighting, repetition, and placement.

Contrast- I do not see significant contrast on this visual other than the dark items placed next to darker color items.

Surprise- this window does not have any element of surprise to my opinion. The only reason I chose this window is because Kors in one of my favorite brands and I am always drawn to it. I like crisp, elegant, minimalist, looks, therefore, I was attracted.

Principles of Design- Megan

The store that I chose to show is Tommy Bahamas. This store is very "Florida Wear". Swim suits, Hawaiian shirts, and shorts. The target market seems to be for people between the ages of 30-45 with a good amount of disposable income.
Unity: I think that this window display shows unity by the colors used in the clothe, the same type of mannequins, and the three outfits look like they "go together".
Harmony: This window shows harmony because of the similarity of the mannequins, they all look alike and it is designed to show a guy three different outfit that he can wear that are harmonious.
Balance: This window has asymmetrical balance it looks balanced even though it isn't symmetric. I think that it seems balanced because the mannequin on the right has a towel in his left hand and then the middle mannequin has a hat in his left hand, although the two items aren't the same size I believe that it is balanced.
Repetition: This principle is demonstrated by the same type of mannequins, as well as all of the mannequins are wearing the same type of clothes (Button-up casual shirts, and shorts).
Rhythm: I think that how the mannequins are placed makes them seem like different heights and so creates a rhythm through the placement.
Emphasis: I think that this window puts emphasis on the clothes, because the mannequins lack heads it draws the attention to the clothes they are wearing rather than the looks of the mannequins.
Contrast: I believe that this window display shows contrast through the middle mannequin, this mannequin is the only one with a heavy print.
Surprise: This shows surprise through the prints, normally you think of Hawaiian shirts but they have included the print in shorts which catches your eye.
